Logan's mom and dad found me just in time for his newborn session. Logan's session had it's share of hiccups, but we ended up with so many beautiful captures of his sweet little face....even if they were catching him on a blink ;-)

- What is the first thing that ran through your mind when you found out you were pregnant?

I feel blessed when I first found out I was pregnant. Kinda curious n wonder how I am gonna grow another inside of my belly.

- What have been the most memorable parts of this pregnancy?

His first kick and his first hiccup.

- Did you have any pregnancy cravings? What were they?

I craved for sour during first trimester. But then I craved sweet after that.

- What was your favorite part about our session together?

How patient and professional Angie is to my son.

- How did you prepare for our photo shoot? How was your experience? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?

I tried to follow the newborn session guide but he was still an unhappy kid when we got to the studio. I had such a good and positive experience with Angie. I was nervous that he wouldn’t have good pics because he was too fussy. But thank God for Angie and her talent.

- What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? I can’t believe he’s here and I cried. It’s hard to explain the emotion that ran thru my mind at that time.

- What was your favorite part about our session together?

Angie was so patient and being so nice and kind to us.

- Do you have a favorite image from your session? Was there any favorite setups or props used?

Yes the eagles outfit. His dad is an eagles fan so we love that post the most.

Can you believe this guy is almost 6 months old already?! I'm a terrible aunt for taking this long to blog his session, but trust me, it's worth the wait! Now, I have a history of tough sessions with nieces and nephews (and my own kids for that matter) so I was prepared to be put to work. Caden surprised me though by being fairly laid back! I asked Bri some of the usual questions about her pregnancy and the session itself. See what she says and check out some favorites from the session.

Please tell me some small details of your birthing process. When did you go into labor? Time of birth? Who all was at the hospital with you?

I went into labor the morning after my due date. It was about 2am Wednesday morning. We went to the hospital around 5am and they admitted me. I was in labor for about 12 hours and toward the end of my labor I got an epidural. The incredible thing about my delivery was that I only had to push for about 15 minutes. After that he was born at 3:28 pm on November 15. He was perfect.

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time?

So many things were happening that I don't really remember the exact thought. They set him down on my chest and I just stared at him. It was amazing.

Do you have a favorite image from your session? Was there any favorite setups or props used?

My favorite image is where my husband is holding our son. Seeing him as a first time father is heartwarming.

How did you prepare for our photo shoot? How was your experience? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?

I don't think I prepared too much. Other than talking about some colors and outfits we wanted to use we just let it up to Angie.

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken?

Make sure you get pictures with you and your child together.

When Kelly first told me she was pregnant, she also told me I was the first to know. Wow! What an honor! We did a fun pregnancy reveal session for her husband and then later a maternity session you can see here. When everyone came in for Cooper's newborn session, it was smooth sailing from the start. Big sis and big bro were so well behaved and Cooper slept through everything like a dream! Kelly brought a few sweet and meaningful items along including a little boat with the number three for their third child, a fun message board for the perfect announcement and a blanket that she made herself. Enough of the chit chat though, here are the images!

When Jacob came in for his session, he let us know pretty quickly he wanted to remain awake the whole time. I know this may not be ideal for every newborn photographer, but I proceeded as usual and we ended up with some amazing eye contact pictures. My absolute favorite is with him looking right at me. I won't even make you scroll down, here it is! Isn't he the cutest?!

What if my baby is awake the whole time?

As a newborn photographer, this question gets asked of me often. What if my baby is awake the whole time? What if my baby doesn't calm down? What if he/she doesn't cooperate? I know this can be a daunting task. You're given a two hour time frame to capture the precious newborn stage, but newborns are the least predictable. I totally get it! Let me preface all this with saying that I absolutely understand a needy newborn. My second child Sawyer, well he has been "needy" from the start! He had reflux and colic for the first year of life. Now as a toddler, he is our wild child! I can totally relate and have plenty of experience interacting with high needs newborns.

When at your session, we will try a number of things to settle your baby. From extra feedings, to burping to gas kicks and stretches...trust me when I say I have a whole bunch of tricks up my sleeve! We may not always get your baby to sleep and that is OKAY! We can still get lots of great awake images and I can catch blinks in between our staring contests. 

If we have tried everything we can and your baby still will not calm down, we will call it. We will reschedule for a different time and try again. That said, I have only had that happen three times in almost 4 years now so it's unlikely! 

Rest easy, your session will go as smoothly as I can make it for you! Come, relax and enjoy this sweet milestone in your life!

Kelly has been a client of mine for a while now. When I was the first person she told about her pregnancy, I can't even explain to you how special that is! We pulled off a successful reveal session to her husband and just recently finished her maternity session. She mentioned never having done a studio session or anything like this before so I was excited to wow her with a beautifully styled studio maternity session! Here is a little from Kelly about her pregnancy so far and her experience at the session. Now we just wait for baby!

What is the first thing that ran through your mind when you found out you were pregnant?
I️ couldn’t believe we were expecting our third child! After 2 years of infertility treatments and experiencing our first loss of our first pregnancy. we didn’t think any pregnant was possible let alone 3. I️ was surprised!

What have been the most memorable parts of this pregnancy?
Seeing our oldest daughter understand what’s happening to mommy and love on my belly. Listening to her talk about her baby brother to be and seeing her excitement brings us so much joy! And how could I️ not mention keeping my known positive pregnancy test a secret for a few weeks so Angie and I️ could plan a surprise reveal to my hubby! He was so surprised! And it was such a perfect memorable time!
 

Did you have any pregnancy cravings? What were they?
A few! I’ve always craved sweets, but I’ve also enjoyed salty cravings like cheese curls and I️ love Golden Grams cereal!

What was your favorite part about our session together?
How simple and easy it was! I️ truly loved everything but I️ really enjoyed the studio session! I️ loved being able to change into many of the gowns. Feeling comfortable and relaxed made everything so easy and smooth!

How did you prepare for our photo shoot? How was your experience? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?
I️ prepared by doing my hair and makeup for something special! My experience was amazing! I️ was nervous doing a studio session because I had done an outdoor session for my last two pregnancies. However, I️ loved the change of atmosphere! It was so relaxing and the pictures turned out better than anything I️ had envisioned! I️ was so extremely happy with the decision to do a studio session and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Do you have a favorite photo from your session? If so, which one?
I love all of our photos and found it hard to just pick one!

What would be your advice to someone getting maternity photographs taken?
Embrace your pregnancy beauty! It is a beautiful time and feeling beautiful in the body your are in carrying that miracle baby is something that should be embraced! I️ have always felt self conscious! However I️ haven’t felt that beautiful since our wedding day! Even though my husband tells me everyday, there was something so special about our session that helped me embrace my pregnancy curves and appearance!

Do you have other children? How do they react to the pregnancy? Feel free to share a little about them here.

We have two other children. Our daughter is 3 and she loves on my belly every single day! She understands better this time what’s happening to mommy. She asked everyday is baby is ready to come out yet! Her excitement is so contagious and such a joy to watch! Our son is 18 months currently and will be 20 months when the baby is born. He kisses my belly and likes pulling my shirt up! He points and says baby to my belly. I️ am so anxious to see the bond he develops with his brother! Him and his sister share such a close bond being 19 months apart and I pray that carries through!
 

Anything else you'd like to add about your session and final images?

We loved everything about our session! We were both so pleased with our images and session. It was relaxing and easy to do with our two young kids! I️ haven’t felt that beautiful in a photo since our wedding pictures! I️ honestly can say there isn’t one thing that we regretted or didn’t like.

The 2nd Annual Mommy & Me {Dream Lighting} Event

I can't believe it's almost here, but we are almost ready to open booking for our 2nd annual Mommy & Me {Dream Lighting} Event! It doesn't seem possible to put into words how amazing this event was last year. The emotions were high and mommies were feeling beautiful and loved! If you don't know what I'm talking about, let me loop you in!

The Mommy & Me {Dream Lighting} Event is a day of pampering for mommies and their babes. Each mom will get a two hour slot - one hour for hair and makeup (which is provided to you) and one hour for the photo session. Childcare will be available at the event so mommies can get pampered without having to worry about a thing! The wardrobe is also provided by AEP so all you need to do is get here and we will take care of the rest! This event has three custom product packages available to choose from all with different heirlooms that will be able to be passed down to your children (and their children) in future generations!

What's new this year is we will have TWO artists for hair and makeup so we can stay on schedule and no one should have to wait around at all. I can't wait to see who joins us this year!

Kennedy's dad Troy works with my husband and so I was thrilled when they contacted me wanting to book their newborn session with me. We patiently waited for Kennedy to make her grand appearance and when she came in for her session, she did not disappoint! Here's a little Q&A with Jennifer and some favorites from their session! 
 

Please tell me some small details of your birthing process. When did you go into labor? Time of birth? Who all was at the hospital with you?

I started having contractions on a Tuesday. We went to the hospital Tuesday night only to be sent back home because I wasn’t dilated enough. My water broke Wednesday morning at 8:30 and Kennedy arrived a little over 12 hours later. My mom and mother-in-law kept my husband and I company all day until it was time to push.

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time?

It was just so surreal. I couldn’t believe I was finally meeting this little girl who I only knew by her movements. She stopped crying as soon as she was put on my chest and it was just the best feeling in the world.

What was your favorite part about our session together?

I loved how easy and laid back the whole session was. It was so nice to literally sit back and watch Angie work her magic at capturing some beautiful moments of this newborn stage.

Do you have a favorite image from your session? Was there any favorite setups or props used?

I have several favorites. But I think my absolute favorite is one of our family photos. It captures so many emotions and will forever have significant meaning to me as our very first family photo. And I loved all the props Angie used.

How did you prepare for our photo shoot? How was your experience? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?

I took a look at Angie’s work online to see what preferences I had for colors, props and backdrops. I was a little worried about not looking my best as a tired, new mom in our family photos. But the family photos turned out beautifully and I will forever treasure the moments Angie captured of our new little family.

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken?

Don’t worry over it and trust your photographer. We knew Angie knew what she was doing so we were able to just sit back and enjoy watching her work.

Anything else you'd like to add about your session and final images?

We are so very pleased with the final images. They are gorgeous, and we have received so many compliments on how beautiful all of the pictures are.

DANIELLE & ISLA

Isla's mommy and daddy were first in the studio as a part of my Rainbow Maternity Project (See more here). I was thrilled when Danielle told me she wanted to bring Isla back for her newborn photos. She is a very special miracle so we  had to incorporate some rainbow baby elements into our session.

What is the first thing that ran through your mind when you found out you were pregnant?
We were skeptical when we had our first positive pregnancy test. We had been trying for months to get pregnant and had a miscarriage in November.

What have been the most memorable parts of this pregnancy?
This pregnancy was tough for me. I was sick the whole time. While it was challenging, I loved feeling movement. It was my very favorite thing about being pregnant!

Did you have any pregnancy cravings? What were they?
The only food I craved was grilled cheese with ketchup.

What was your favorite part about our maternity session together?I loved being part of the Rainbow Baby Maternity project. Angie gave me and other mommies a voice for our experience with loss and our journeys to motherhood. I felt so comfortable having my pictures taken, which I was very nervous for. I loved the dresses and Angie couldn’t have been any sweeter!

How did you prepare for our maternity photo shoot? How was your experience? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?
I was very nervous to do my own makeup, as I am not typically one who wears it frequently, but I felt good about how my hair and makeup turned out. I also was nervous about how my pictures would look because I always thought I was “too big” to look pregnant. Angie and my husband got me to feel so beautiful that day and I love how my pictures turned out and would definitely do it again.

Please tell me some small details of your birthing process. When did you go into labor? Time of birth? Who all was at the hospital with you?
We had to be induced at 36 weeks due to complications with my Lupus. Our induction started on Sunday afternoon and Isla was born Tuesday morning at 10:09. Josh, my husband, was with me for the whole hospitalization. I couldn’t have done it without him.

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time?
When she was born I cried “oh my God she’s so beautiful!” I couldn’t stop looking at her. I thought “she’s finally here, and she’s gorgeous!”

What was your favorite part about our session together?
Isla was so cooperative and quiet throughout our session so it was easy for Angie to try new things and get multiple poses, which was so fun to see. I also loved that Angie incorporated a handmade blanket that Isla received from my Aunt. It made those pictures so special.

How did you prepare for your newborn photo shoot? How was your experience? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?I was very nervous that the baby would be fussy, but she did great! We followed the newborn guide Angie has on her website and she did a super job once she was swaddled.

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken?
Feed your baby right before and make sure you have things that are important to you in the pictures, like our blanket.

A Rainbow Maternity Project

A Labor of Love

I can hardly believe this project is ready to be shared. This has been a labor of love for the past four months now. I cannot thank the mamas who participated enough for being vulnerable and sharing their stories. What a blessing this project has been on my heart and I pray it is a blessing to all of you reading this as well.

National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness

In October 1988, President Ronald Reagan Proclaimed October as National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. “When a child loses his parent, they are called an orphan. When a spouse loses her or his partner, they are called a widow or widower. When parents lose their child, there isn’t a word to describe them. This month recognizes the loss so many parents experience across the United States and around the world. It is also meant to inform and provide resources for parents who have lost children due to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, stillbirth, birth defects, SIDS and other causes."

Finding Healing

This cause is so heavy on my heart because I personally have suffered two miscarriages through my journey of motherhood. I know too well the deep pain that comes along with that and the anxiety that accompanies a following pregnancy. It is a gut wrenching, nerve wrecking kind of anxiety. The kind that prevents you from truly being able to enjoy your pregnancy. It is unexplainable to someone who has not experienced it. The uncertainty of whether or not this pregnancy will last. The constant worry that runs through your mind of what that little twinge was or why you haven't felt a kick yet today. It is debilitating at times.

So where do we go from here? How does one who has suffered a pregnancy loss or infant death find healing? I feel it is with each other. Unfortunately, though it's so far from deserved, there is such shame that accompanies pregnancy and infant loss. "What did I do wrong?"  We, as women, all women should share our experiences together and encourage one another through the process. Sometimes all it takes is someone just to be there. You don't need to say anything. You don't need to do anything. Just be present. Wrap your arms around your friend, daughter, sister, whoever is going through this pain and let them know you are there. There simply are no words that will make it "okay", but I do feel there is such healing in sharing.

A Rainbow Baby

A "rainbow baby" is a baby that is born following a pregnancy or infant loss. In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better. The rainbow is more appreciated having just experienced the storm in comparison. The storm (pregnancy loss) has already happened and nothing can change that experience. Storm-clouds might still be overhead as the family continue to cope with the loss, but something colorful and bright has emerged from the darkness and misery.  

A Very Special Project

This project has been in the works for many months now. Seven beautiful and brave women participated to show off their beautiful rainbow baby bumps. Each of these women have experienced their own struggles with loss and every single one of them is expecting a precious little rainbow baby. We even had one of the babies arrive already (I will definitely be sneaking in an image of here later on so keep reading)! This group of women, who didn't know each other before the project, have a special bond because of what they've all experienced. Some of them have shared their stories below. I encourage you to take the time to read through them!

The Stories

Jessica

Our journey to parenthood started in March of 2015. We had been struggling to conceive for a little over 6 years at that point. We had an appointed with my OB and she referred us to Lancaster Fertility. That day was extremely hard and emotional. What woman ever wants to hear that something is wrong and they can't have a child. After extensive testing we found out that we both had an issue and that we definitely came to the right place. Once all of our testing was complete we were finally ready to start having a baby! I started on clomid and we started our first round of IUI. IUI is the medical term for artificial insemination. We were told that the more you do IUI the higher your chances are. So after our first failed IUI we decided to have another go at it. Much to our surprise it was successful!!! My heart was just bursting with excitement and tears that we were finally having a baby! Almost 2 weeks after our positive blood test I started to fall very ill. I was having severe cramping and was barely able to walk. Since it was August we went to the beach for a long weekend. Well much to my surprise I started to miscarry in the early hours of the morning. My husband rushed me to the ER and unfortunately we weren't close to home and with being a Fertility patient the doctor and nurses at the hospital didn't quite know what to do. We fast forward 4 days later and we have a check up with our Fertility doctor after our horrible news. Here I was not having a normal miscarriage, I actually had an ectopic pregnancy. Because of how much pain I was in I was told that I would need to have emergency surgery to have the embryo removed. So off I went and just like that my baby was taken away from me. That very day was the worst day of my life. After a couple months of healing and dealing with the struggle of losing our child we decided to continue treatments. We were told that we could continue with IUI but instead of clomid I would have to be on injectable medication because they had to remove one of my tubes. We proceeded to do IUI 3 morning times with no success. At that point our only option was to try IVF. We had our IVF consult on January 2017 and started the process in February. What a long and extensive process that was!! Early March we had our egg retrieval and 3 days later we had our transfer. We had 2 successful embryos and the decision was made to transfer them both. As an IVF patient you still have to wait the dreadful 2 week wait. Fast forward to March 20th. First day of spring. The day we were going to find out if we were having a baby!! I went in for bloodwork in the morning and wouldn't know the results until the afternoon. I remember getting that phone call like it was yesterday. Yay we are pregnant!!! And then came the dreadful "but". We got a positive test but my levels were very low. There was concerns that the embryo or embryos wouldn't make it. The decision was made to increase my meds and have bloodwork done every other day. The next 48 hours were the longest hours of my life. Thankfully the next test showed that my levels doubled which was they needed to see. I continued to go back in every other day to make sure my levels were rising. After a couple weeks we finally graduated from our Fertility doctor!! After almost exactly 2 years we were graduating and on our journey to having a baby. Today we are 7 weeks away and he will be arriving November 20, 2017.

I first got pregnant in December 2014, but miscarried after 9 weeks.  It was a devastating loss, but luckily I got pregnant again in April 2015 and had our daughter Celia Lucy (CeCe) in January 2016!  I then got pregnant again in February 2017, and our second girl, Sienna Aurora is due this month, October 2017.  We are over-the-moon happy to welcome her into our family very soon.  My husband and I are very thankful to have CeCe with us and Sienna on the way.

My husband and I first got pregnant in the fall of 2014. We were overjoyed and excited - considering that it only took a few months of trying! We made it all the way to our first ultrasound appointment when I was 6 weeks along. During the ultrasound I knew something was wrong when the technician left suddenly. She came back and confirmed I had a blighted-ovum. A what?! Basically that means that a sperm and egg met up but no baby formed. Everything else formed and looked perfect but no baby. They told me to wait a week to come back and confirm. I then endured the longest week of my life. I never prayed so hard or cried so much. God, please let there be a baby in there next week. Next week came and no baby. I was told I would have to wait for my body to miscarry. So for the next three weeks I waited. The miscarriage was traumatic and I had to go to the ER due to massive blood loss. After that happened I got really sick and had a blood infection which lead to infected kidney stones and an infected bladder. I was hospitalized for five days. Because I had to have procedures to remove the kidney stones I was not allowed to get pregnant. Torture. We could not even TRY. When I was finally cleared to try again it took an entire year to get pregnant again. I do not know why I did not seek additional medical help at the time but I remember being so certain we could do this ourselves. In April 2016 I was pregnant again. This time we kept it to ourselves and told no one. Everything was fine until week 5. I started bleeding. I told my husband "I know what is happening, I am having a miscarriage." He did not believe me but when the bleeding got so bad we went to a local triage. After being poked and prodded nurses confirmed I had miscarried. We cried. Hard. We did not understand why God took this baby too. What were we doing wrong? Was it my fault? It had to be. So, we kept on trying for about 6 months with no luck. I finally decided to take the next step and go to seek a fertility specialist. Again, we were poked and prodded. I was monitored so closely and some weeks I was in multiple days. We found out that our two pregnancies were actually miracles because they technically should not have happened considering the issues we had facing us. I found out that I could carry a pregnancy but we definitely needed help. We sought treatment for almost 6 months when I got the phone call I was pregnant. I dropped to my knees and sobbed because I knew that with all the interventions we were getting this pregnancy was going to last. I cried again but this time the happiest tears. We were going to finally start our family. So far my pregnancy has been completely healthy and even on the bad days I love it more than words. We are so blessed to be pregnant and I hope that my pregnancy goes quickly so I can meet my little rainbow.

Megan

When I found out I was pregnant with our little man due this October, it was an answered prayer. Last fall we lost our baby only weeks after knowing he or she existed. It was the longest and most painful few weeks I've ever been through. Excitement from seeing a heartbeat led to weeks of bleeding followed with questions of whether or not my baby was still in my womb. My heart broke when I went in for a check up after hoping and praying my little one was still there only to find my babe finished passing while I was in office. We chose to participate in a communal burial- an opportunity I was very thankful for. We were blessed to get pregnant again within a few months with our rainbow baby on the way. It was a time of growth and testing. My faith was stretched as I had to choose faith daily over the fear of loss again and the fear of not being able to conceive. I look forward to seeing Baby T, our little one in heaven, and anticipate with a happy heart the arrival of baby Cole this October.

We weren't planning another pregnancy when we got pregnant with the child we miscarried, and we weren't planning our rainbow baby either. We actually got pregnant right after our miscarriage, and after a few weeks my hormone levels were still present, so I called my OBGYN. The doctor thought I hadn't miscarried completely (I opted for a natural miscarriage) and told me I should probably plan for a D&E. However, we tested my hormone levels 48 hours later and found that they had doubled (which indicates a new pregnancy!), so instead we scheduled an ultrasound and there was a sweet little heartbeat and a bean measuring around 5.5 weeks! Not going to lie, we weren't mentally prepared to welcome a new child into our family at the time and there was a lot of fear and anxiety surrounding the beginning of our rainbow pregnancy (what if we lose this one too? I'm still grieving my other baby, how can I celebrate this new one and continue my grieving process simultaneously? I'm still breastfeeding, how will this affect my older child?), but Holy Spirit gave us two verses during this time - the first was actually given to us by a friend when we found out about our miscarriage: Isaiah 66:9 - "'I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born', says the Lord". This verse really touched our hearts, even though we didn't think our "something new" would come so quickly! We actually have a swaddle for our sweet little lady with this verse written on it. The second was Isaiah 43:19 - "For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness and rivers in the dry wasteland." This verse is especially close to us now that we can look back at the dark time of discovering our child didn't have a heartbeat and the consecutive pregnancy that quickly followed. Because a pregnancy is measured from the first day of a woman's last period (and I didn't have a period in between pregnancies) the "first day" of this new pregnancy was actually the last day of my miscarried pregnancy and is such a testament that even in the middle of our hardest, darkest times God is already creating something new and beautiful out of our pain and brokenness. The names we chose for our tiny babe (though they will remain a secret until she arrives!) actually mean beauty through pain and darkness. We absolutely can't wait to welcome our sweet rainbow baby and all the beauty she will bring to our family!

We knew that conceiving would probably be difficult for my husband and I because I have many autoimmune issues. When we found out with our first baby, we were so ecstatic! The two pink lines were there, and from that moment, we were in love. Shortly after we found out we were pregnant, we were told that it probably wouldn't be a successful pregnancy. We lost our first baby at Thanksgiving. Our holidays were so hard. We had hope that 2017 would be our year. At the end of January, we found out that we were pregnancy again. This time, we were cautious. Especially since our first ultrasound showed an empty sac. The doctors prepared us for another loss. One week later, we saw a strong, beating heart on the ultrasound. My husband and I, along with our ultrasound tech, let out a sigh of relief. It was finally real. We have been so in love with our little girl! We have decorated her nursery using elephants and gotten tons of clothes with them which helps us to remember our baby in Heaven.

What does this project mean to you?

Jessica - "To me this series shows the babies we never got to hold. It shows the strength that myself and these women have to overcome one of the hardest things in life. Our rainbow babies will never replace what we have lost but will bring us joy of what we have fought so hard for. The struggle with infertility and miscarriage are way to common and just not talked about enough. I'm living proof that if you really want something bad enough God will provide in one way or another."

Megan - "I am thankful to be apart of this project because I believe it celebrates the lives of the babies that are not with us while celebrating the fulfillment of a promise found in the life of a rainbow baby. We will always cherish our little one that we will never get to hold and share our love with earth side, while we embrace the opportunity to love more fiercely then ever as we fully recognizing the true miracle of life. I am thankful this project sheds the shame that can be associated with miscarriages and celebrates the beauty of life after loss."

Emily - "It's a celebration. I am getting emotional just knowing that all the other women are rainbow mommy's too. It shows empowerment. It shows that there is healing and hope even in a storm. It shows that we are strong women who can overcome the most devastating loss. I hope it touches other women and we can continue to create conversations about loss and miscarriages because it does happen and women should not feel alone. I am honored to be a part of this and I pray it touches others."
 

Melanie - "It feels like a really nice way to honor the babies that we conceived but couldn't bring into this world, as well as to celebrate how lucky we are to be the parents of rainbow babies!"
Danielle - "I never wanted maternity pictures. I have always thought that I had the body type that would make it hard to tell that I was pregnant, so the thought of displaying those insecurities seemed awful. Multiple coworkers urged me to participate in this project. When I read more about Angie's vision and goal, I felt like I could find healing with this project. I never felt as beautiful as I did the day I had my pictures taken. And I finally could think about our baby and smile. My husband was so grateful that Angie's project could make me feel this way."

"The day that Isla arrived was the most wonderful day of our lives. We had to be induced at 36 weeks, which can make baby's adjustment to the outside world more challenging. Our little miracle baby has been happy and healthy since her very first breath, thriving on the outside. We couldn't be happier for each snuggle, each dirty diaper, every tear, every gassy smile. To us she is perfect." -Danielle

I worked with Ashleigh before throughout her pregnancy with Caleigh and then her newborn session. Their family recently moved away, but I was still excited for her when she announced her newest pregnancy. Imagine my excitement when she reached out and wanted to book her maternity session for the next time they were in PA! I was thrilled! She also wanted to incorporate a gender reveal which was super fun! As always, I had a little Q&A with Ashleigh and of course some favorites from their session!

What is the first thing that ran through your mind when you found out you were pregnant?

The excitement of growing another human! Also, looked very much forward to another beautiful maternity photography session!

What have been the most memorable parts of this pregnancy?

Honestly, balancing life between being a mom and wife. Realizing how crazy life can get while pregnant and raising 2 other kids under the age of 4. It may be a juggle however it's only one time done journey in life

Did you have any pregnancy cravings? What were they?

Peaches! Ate 2/3 peaches a day

What was your favorite part about our session together?

Just the laughter and trying to attempt something new with throwing color powder to reveal gender. We loved the annoucement and capturing the moments of our soon second baby girl.

How did you prepare for our photo shoot? How was your experience? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?
 

Preparing for the gender reveal, coming up with ideas and best choice to really capture the reveal. We loved our experience, it was a beautiful moment, a beautiful evening and environment. I was only nervous for my other 2 little ones making sure we could get good pictures with a 1 year old and 3 years old, but I knew in the hands of Angie, we were able to succeed!

Do you have a favorite photo from your session? If so, which one?

I love the photo of us sitting on the blanket, laughing. The kids are happy, daddy is happy and of course that makes momma happy!

What would be your advice to someone getting maternity photographs taken?

Just feel your inner self and know carrying a little human your always beautiful. Pregnancy is a beautiful yet challenging journey, but during that maternity session, close your eyes and bring it all in to center yourself and that little human inside of you

Do you have other children? How do they react to the pregnancy? Feel free to share a little about them here.

Yes. I have a 1 year old and soon to be 4 year old. My daughter doesn't fully understand. My son, who is the 4 year old, he rubs my belly and continues to ask if baby is still inside? He's afraid of missing the birth or not meeting the baby- surely he will meet her soon!

Anything else you'd like to add about your session and final images?

We loved our session. We looked forward to it for months. When we see the moments captured, it feels like we were there ️again, the picture seems so real. Years from now, that moment and feeling will continue to feel real bringing back so many emotions and love from the journeys we are going through now. The kids grow up quick, life goes quick- and thanks for Angie for capturing these moments, were able to relive them and recall the evening at any given time. It's so hard living in another state, 17 hours away. We know we can never replace Angie.

Krystan contacted me for maternity and newborn photos. I got her booked and we began planning her sessions. To say her maternity session surpassed expectations would be an understatement. She showed up looking gorgeous and we got to town putting on the gowns she had chosen for her session. She knocked the whole thing out of the park! Then fast forward to when Maddox arrived....he was an absolute rockstar for his session too! Slept like a champ and we were able to get through a variety of setups within an hour! 

As always, here's a little Q&A so Krystan can tell you a little more about her experience and then of course the photos! Enjoy!

What is the first thing that ran through your mind when you found out you were pregnant?

We couldn't believe it. I thought I had the stomach bug and had to call off work. I started calculating some timing and thought oh maybe I better check. We never thought we would get pregnant this fast or that we could. At first the second pink line took a while to show up as it was still very early. Then when it did I shouted to my husband "do you see that too?!" He asked me "what does that mean?" I said "I'm pregnant!"

What have been the most memorable parts of this pregnancy?

Feeling Maddox move! He was always a wild man in utero so it was so much fun for me to watch my belly move and feel him grooving inside. Maternity pictures also were one of my most favorite moments. I was not into them but boy I am so glad I did them. I felt so beautiful looking at the pictures Angie did!

Did you have any pregnancy cravings? What were they?

Fruit, corn on the cob and smoothies! I also craved a primo hoagie but resisted!

Do you have a favorite photo from your session? If so, which one?

My favorite maternity photos are the ones with the pink gown and dream lighting. It's so ethereal.

What would be your advice to someone getting maternity photographs taken?

Do it! Don't let your hesitation stop you. These are once in a lifetime pictures. I miss my pregnant belly but I always have the pictures!

Please tell me some small details of your birthing process. When did you go into labor? Time of birth? Who all was at the hospital with you?

I was in prodromal (early) labor for almost a week before he finally decided to make his appearance. We visited triage 7 times before they decided to admit me. He was born at 2:02pm after 32 minutes of pushing. I shared the moment with my sister in law Brittni and my cousin Charity got to be the baby nurse. It was so special.

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time?

I said to my husband "he looks just like you!" He has my husbands big lips.

What was your favorite part about your newborn session with AEP?

There were laughs and teary eyes you may not have noticed. With all the chaos after delivery it was easy to lose sight of what is really important. The newborn sessions has helped keep things in perspective.

Just taking the time out to enjoy my baby. These first 2 1/2 weeks were very stressful and really tugged at my heart. I got time away from worrying about specialist visits or if I would ever be able to breast feed or have enough of a milk supply. Just being able to let my guard down and marvel in the child my husband and I created was so worth it. Angie was so encouraging too. She understood how I was feeling and offered support. Needless to say I pumped on the car ride home and it was the first time I had gotten a substantial amount of breast milk and it just made everything more perfect.

Do you have a favorite image from your session? Was there any favorite setups or props used?

The hunk hat! I loved the bean bag positioning aide. It was so cute to see them all snuggled in.

How did you prepare for your newborn session? How was your experience? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?

I showered. That truth is a feat for new moms. I washed my hair and put on makeup and a normal outfit and thought to myself wow okay this is good. I was nervous for my maternity shoot but once you put one of those gowns on you feel like a million bucks. Both sessions have surpassed outstanding!

WOW! What an amazing day this ended up being! How do I even begin to share about it with you? Well, let me start by giving special shout outs to those who helped make this day possible. We had the pleasure of working with Kristen from Unfading Beauty by Kristen. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful she is to work with AND how talented she is at what she does! Just spectacular! The slideshow was a perfect introduction to them!!! I had such anticipation for them and it was such a Special moment for me. I wasn't in Mason's newborn photos which I incredibly regret, and the bond that you can see in these photos have definitely filled the void of not having photos of the bond between newborn photos. I am spoiled to have friends with daughters (since I only have boys!) and I get to play around with them every once in awhile. When Lisa asked me to update her girls' photo, I immediately knew what I wanted to do. So we got these matching rompers from Country Couture & Co and took the girls to the creek. Lily was not super into it, but it definitely didn't translate into *most* of the photos. (Anyone with a two year old knows how that goes!)

Lisa said, "I love how you went with the flow because Lillian was not buying it that evening. You still captured great photos and we love them all. I obviously love the pictures when you see the sister bond, but I like the individual ones of the girls by themselves. Thanks again for capturing the little girlies!!!

Brett approached me a little while ago about a baby plan. We got her all set up and squared away when I offered a maternity session add on. Wow am I glad she did it! She is gorgeous and I can't wait for her baby to look back and see these some day! I asked Brett a little about her session. Here's what she had to say...
 

What is the first thing that ran through your mind when you found out you were pregnant?

Excitement!!! We were thrilled to find out, a little shocked it happened so fast but overjoyed!

What have been the most memorable parts of this pregnancy?

It's all been an experience we'll never forget. Seeing James's love and affection grow for me and our child has been the best part for me. You know you love each other but sharing the gift of baby is such a blessing and we have just grown so much together threw this chapter of our lives.

Did you have any pregnancy cravings? What were they?

Yes milk and cereal threw my first 12 weeks of  nausea. Since then I'm craving ice cream and peanutbutter cups.

What was your favorite part about our session together?

Being in the woods, I love nature and just putting on all the amazing gowns and feeling beautiful. I think it's important for women to feel beautiful during pregnancy especially near the end  and what a better way then doing a photo shoot like this.

How did you prepare for our photo shoot? How was your experience? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?

I had no expectations, I went there with an open mind and was very excited for my shoot.  They didn't do this stuff 10 years ago when my son was born so for me I couldn't wait! Angie was  awesome to work with and very down to earth. I loved every minute of it!

Do you have a favorite photo from your session? If so, which one?

I do not have a favorite one  but more like a bunch.  I love all my photos making it hard to pick which ones we would want.

What would be your advice to someone getting maternity photographs taken?

My advice to someone getting maternity photos taken for the first time would be you won't regret it and to have fun with it! It's a fun experience!  

Do you have other children? How do they react to the pregnancy? 

We both have children he has a daughter that is 7 we don't have her much but she seams to be excited. I have a son he is 10 and for 8 years it was just us, he was excited then went through a phase of not wanting the baby, but now he is just as excited as us.

Anything else you'd like to add about your session and final images?

I loved this experience and would recommend it to all  mamas expecting a little one.
