Spring has a way of making everything feel fresh again.
The flowers begin to bloom, the evenings stretch a little longer, and families start thinking about preserving this season before it slips by.
As a photographer serving Lancaster County families, spring is one of my favorite times of year for maternity, newborn, and family portraits.
Maternity Sessions in Spring
Spring offers the most beautiful natural backdrop for maternity portraits. Soft greens, flowering trees, and open fields create a timeless setting that feels both elegant and full of life. It’s the perfect season to celebrate the anticipation of welcoming a new baby.
The ideal time to book a maternity session is during your second trimester, with your session typically taking place between 28–34 weeks when your bump is beautifully visible and you’re still feeling comfortable.
Newborn Sessions in Spring
Spring is often a season of nesting and preparation. Many moms due in late spring or summer begin thinking about reserving their newborn session while still pregnant so everything feels effortless once baby arrives.
I only take a limited number of newborns each month so I can provide a fully guided, stress-free experience for every family. From wardrobe guidance to styling and planning, everything is designed to feel simple and calm during those first tender weeks.
For newborn sessions, the best time to reserve your due date is while you are still expecting.
Family Sessions in Spring
Spring is also ideal for family portraits. Children are excited to be outdoors again, and the soft evening light creates connection-filled images that feel natural, joyful, and timeless.
What to Wear for Spring Photos
The biggest question is always…what do we wear?
Spring photographs beautifully in soft tones like creams, dusty blues, sage greens, and gentle florals.
One of the things my clients love most is that I provide wardrobe guidance and access to a carefully curated client closet, making the entire process feel easy and stress-free.
Favorite Spring Locations in Lancaster County
Some of my favorite spring locations include open wildflower fields (I currently have one remaining spot for the dreamiest wildflower field in Ronks), flowering trees in Ephrata, and golden evening light in the surrounding countryside.
If you’ve been thinking about updating your family portraits, documenting a pregnancy, or reserving a newborn session, spring is one of the best times to plan ahead.
I’d love to help you create something timeless for your family this season. Spring sessions tend to book quickly as soon as the weather begins to shift. If this season is on your heart, I recommend reaching out early so we can plan something beautiful together.

BONUS: Quick Prep Checklist for a Stress-Free Photo Session
Preparing for your session doesn’t need to feel overwhelming. A little planning ahead goes a long way in helping the experience feel smooth, relaxed, and enjoyable for everyone.
Here are a few simple ways to prepare for any maternity, newborn, or family photo session:
1. Choose outfits early
Try on everyone’s outfits at least a few days in advance so there are no surprises the day of your session. Make sure clothing fits comfortably, is wrinkle-free, and coordinates well without being overly “matchy.”
Soft, timeless tones tend to photograph beautifully and keep the focus on connection.
2. Plan around naps and meals
For little ones especially, timing is everything. If possible, schedule your session around nap time and make sure everyone has had a snack or meal beforehand. Happy, well-rested children make such a difference.
3. Keep hair, nails, and details simple
Freshly washed hair, clean nails, and moisturized skin help create a polished look without needing anything elaborate. Moms often love scheduling hair and makeup beforehand so they can fully relax and enjoy the experience.
4. Bring comfort items for children
A favorite small toy, stuffed animal, or neutral blanket can be incredibly helpful for little ones who may need a moment to warm up.
5. Avoid last-minute stress
Lay everything out the night before…outfits, shoes, accessories, diapers, wipes, and any extras you may need. The less you need to think about the day of, the more relaxed you’ll feel.
6. Focus on connection, not perfection
The most beautiful images come from genuine connection…cuddles, laughter, little hands reaching for yours, and the way your family naturally loves each other.
Don’t worry about perfect smiles every second. Real moments are what make your images timeless.
