My oldest turned 13 recently.
And I wasn’t ready for how much it would hit my mama heart.
There’s something about that shift, watching your baby step into the teenage years, that makes time feel loud. Like it’s suddenly moving faster than you can keep up with.
One minute you’re rocking them to sleep, memorizing the weight of their tiny body in your arms…and the next, they’re taller, deeper-voiced, and stepping into a whole new season you can’t slow down.
One of my dearest photos, my grandfather with my oldest, his namesake 🖤
It’s not a perfect image…grainy, low quality, clearly just an old snapshot, but it holds everything. My grandfather is no longer with us, and I’m so thankful they had this time together. Moments like this only grow more precious with time.
Lately, I’ve found myself going back.
Scrolling through old photos…the squishy baby cheeks, the chubby toddler hands, the scraped knees, the missing-tooth smiles. Moments that felt so ordinary in the middle of them now feel sacred.
And I keep thinking the same thing over and over again:
Time is a thief.
Not in a harsh, bitter way. But in that quiet, sneaky way where the days feel long, but the years slip right through your fingers.
You don’t notice it happening until suddenly…you do.
And it’s stirred something in me.
A desire to hold tighter. To be more present. To say yes to the messy, ordinary, in-between moments that make up our days.
But if I’m being honest, it’s also made me want to capture it all.
Not just the big milestones. Not just the “perfect” moments.
But the way your child tucks their hand into yours without thinking.
The way they laugh when they’re not trying to be cool.
The way they still look like your baby when they fall asleep on the couch.
Because these are the things we forget.
And photos…they give them back to us.
They let us return to a version of life that we didn’t fully realize we’d miss one day.
As a mom, these images mean everything to me.
And as a Lancaster PA family photographer specializing in motherhood, maternity, and newborn photography, this is why I do what I do.
Not for perfectly posed smiles or matching outfits, but for connection. For legacy. For the feeling of this season, exactly as it is.
Because one day, you’ll look back too.
And you’ll want to remember.
If you’re a mama in this season…busy, pulled in a hundred directions, wanting to hold onto it all but not sure how…this is your reminder that you don’t have to do it alone.
You don’t need perfect outfits.
You don’t need perfectly behaved kids.
You don’t need to have it all together.
You just need to show up.
That’s where I come in.
I’ll guide you, take care of the details, and create space for you to simply be with your people so you walk away with images that feel like you and a process that feels easy.
So this is your gentle nudge…one mom to another:
Don’t wait for the perfect time.
Don’t wait until life slows down.
Don’t wait until you “feel ready.”
Just start.
Because years from now, when you’re flipping through these photos… you won’t regret being in them.
You’ll be so grateful you didn’t let this season pass you by.
