5 Simple Ways I’m Making Winter Feel Softer at Home | Angie Englerth Photography
Winter has a way of pressing in on all of us.
And January? January feels like it lasts approximately 47 weeks.
The days feel shorter. The cold feels heavier. The house is louder because we’re all home more. There’s a temptation this time of year to push through, to keep producing, to fight the slowdown.
But this winter, I’m choosing something different.
Instead of trying to power my way through the hardest months, I’m leaning into softening them a bit. Not fixing winter. Not rushing it. Just making it gentler to live inside. As best I can.
Here are a few simple ways I’m doing that. It’s nothing fancy. Just small shifts that have made our days feel warmer, calmer, and a little more sane.
Winter can feel long, cold, and heavy, but it doesn’t have to be all gray. I’m finding joy in the small, cozy moments at home: soft light, laughter with the kids, and even the simple miracle of our chickens still giving eggs. Sometimes, slowing down is exactly what we need to remember what matters most.
